Processing Time
Processing times are calculated from the date a complete application is lodged. All applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis, and actual processing durations may vary depending on individual circumstances. Factors that may influence processing times include whether the application has been submitted with all required supporting documentation, the timeliness of responses to requests for additional information, the duration required to complete health, character, national security, or Assurance of Support checks, and the time taken to obtain information from external agencies. Processing times may also be affected by peak lodgement periods and fluctuations in demand.
Applicants are strongly advised to submit a complete and well-documented application to help ensure assessment within the published processing timeframes. The guidance provided during the application process is intended to assist applicants in including all required documentation at the time of lodgement.
Progress enquiries or requests for expedited processing will only be considered in cases of genuine emergency. If a request is submitted and no manual response is received within two working days, this indicates that the request has been reviewed and determined not to meet the threshold of a genuine emergency.
