Canada Visit Visa

Canada Temporary Resident Visa (TRV Visitor Visa)

A Canada Temporary Resident Visa, commonly known as a Visitor Visa, is an official document issued by a Canadian visa office that is placed in a traveler’s passport. It confirms that the applicant has met the requirements to enter Canada as a temporary resident. A TRV allows foreign nationals from visa required countries to travel to Canada for purposes such as tourism, visiting family, or short business trips.

Individuals who have previously been granted permanent residence or landed immigrant status in Canada may still legally hold permanent resident status. A Canada Temporary Resident Visa cannot be issued to someone who is already a permanent resident.

What Are the Requirements for a TRV

To qualify for a Canada Temporary Resident Visa, applicants must satisfy the requirements set out under Canada’s immigration legislation and demonstrate that their stay in Canada will be temporary. The immigration officer reviewing the application must be convinced that the applicant intends to leave Canada at the end of the authorized period of stay.

Applicants must show that they have sufficient financial resources to support themselves and any accompanying family members during their visit and to cover return travel expenses. They must not intend to work or study in Canada unless they obtain proper authorization.

The applicant must have no criminal record, must not pose a security risk, and must comply with Canadian laws. Additional documents may be requested to confirm admissibility. In certain cases, a medical examination may be required to demonstrate good health.

What If I Was Previously Granted Permanent Resident Status

If you were previously granted permanent residence or landed immigrant status in Canada, you may still be considered a permanent resident even if your PR card has expired. In such cases, you are not eligible to apply for a Canada Temporary Resident Visa.

If you are outside Canada and wish to return, you may need to apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document. This document allows eligible permanent residents abroad to re enter Canada.

If you no longer wish to maintain permanent resident status, or if you do not meet the residency obligations required to keep that status, you may choose to formally renounce your permanent residence. Once renounced, you may then apply for a Canada Temporary Resident Visa if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Visitor Visa Processing Time

Processing times for a Temporary Resident Visa vary depending on several factors, including application volume, country of application, and the completeness of submitted documents. In many cases, processing may take between one to two months, while in other situations it may extend to four to eight months.

Applicants should also consider the time required to gather supporting documents, complete biometrics if required, and undergo medical examinations if requested. Submitting a complete and well prepared application can help reduce unnecessary delays.
